Sickness & Jeffrey's Birthday Party

Last Tuesday night, Jeffrey woke up at 2:30 am. He was so sick and vomited about every 30 minutes for the rest of the night. Needless to say that neither he or I slept from that point on. Jeremy got up for work about 5 and I was just about asleep when Jackson burst through our bedroom door, "Good Morning Mommy! I'm awake!" This is the child who I have to normally drag out of bed every single morning at 7am to get ready for school. I couldn't believe it. So the 3 of us stayed in bed for a few hours. Jeffrey threw up more, I slept off and on and Jackson's mouth ran nonstop. He was giving me a running commentary of whatever cartoon he was watching. Somehow, I get him ready for school in between Jeffrey's vomits and I shoved him out the door when the bus came for him. I have never been so glad to get him on that bus. Jeffrey and I slept from the minute he left till the minute he came home. I then felt semi human again. Unfortunately, this was just the beginning of the sickness in our house.

Wednesday & Thursday was vomiting and high fevers for Jeffrey. Jeremy worked Thursday and I stayed home. At this point, Jeffrey starting having diarrhea really bad. The vomiting had stopped except for the occasional chocolate milk shower I got. Now I know you don't give someone diary products who is sick but this child about drove me over the edge because he wanted chocolate milk. He followed me around the house, crying and screaming, threw himself on the floor and whined because I wouldn't give him milk. I finally just gave in and I paid the price, which leads me to another point, laundry. I can not begin to tell you how many loads of laundry I've done in the last week. I bought a 32 load bottle of Tide on Wednesday night (I think it was Wed) and it's almost gone. I haven't even washed my clothes or Jeremy's clothes(unless they'd been thrown up on)for over a week. I think I was averaging about 4-5 loads a day.

Anyway...Jeffrey's birthday was Friday and I worked that day. I wouldn't normally wouldn't have worked since it was his birthday but I was so far behind since I hadn't done any work at home the entire week. Plus I needed to regain a sense of sanity so I left. I figured it was Jeremy's turn to deal with it all. I called him around noon and he tells me that Jeffrey is fine. No fever, no vomiting and very little diarrhea. What??? He's apparently much luckier than I am.

At this point, we were trying to decide if we were still having Jeffrey's party on Saturday. Since Jeremy said he was doing much better, I decided that we would have it. (Do you see where this is going?) I worked much later than I wanted. I still had a ton of things to do to get ready for the party plus the house had to be cleaned and the yard has to be mowed. Ugghhhh!!! I got a bunch of stuff done and things are going well and Jeffrey seems much better. Jeremy gives him chocolate milk which I thought was a bad idea and he said he's been drinking it all day. So I didn't think say anymore about it and go about my business. Jeremy leaves to take stuff to the recyling bins and no sooner than he walks out the door, Jeffrey runs into the kitchen and gives me yet another milk shower. Great. Thanks Jerm.

So the kids go to bed, I'm trying to do things for the Kitty birthday party and nothing is really going right. I baked fish shaped cookies which puffed up to the size of rolls and then burned. They soon found their way into the trash. The pinata I'd made had issues and ended up joining the cookies in the trash. I finally decided I'd had enough. The cupcakes and the cat cake I made turned out so I was happy with those and decided it was time for bed. At some point, Jeffrey ended up in our bed and didn't really sleep for about 2-3 hours out of the night. I finally put him in back in his bed and managed to get a little bit of sleep.

Jeremy got up to go to the Y at 6 so I got up then as well. I get myself and Jackson ready for the day and then wake up Jeffrey so we can go to Walmart before the party and get some balloons, cookies and a pinata. I had to wake him up which is the worst thing you can do to him. Totally not a morning person. We needed to leave by 8 so we'd be back in time for Jeremy to use the car. (He was going to pick up my Dad, Monica, Chloe and Cael at a wrestling tournament Boston was in at the Mahomet high school.) So we somehow got in the car at 8am & headed to Walmart. In the back of my mind, I just had a feeling that going to walmart was a mistake. Jackson, who hasn't shown one sign of sickness the entire week, throws up all over himself in the car when we were about half way there. No warning signs, nothing. I don't like vomiting but I REALLY don't like vomit in car seats. It's the worst. So I strip him down to his boxers in some parking lot, clean it up the best I can(I was semi prepared for this sort of thing), get back in the car and head for home with nothing. Jackson tells me that he feels fine, he's not sick at all. He's even acting fine. At this point, Mindy & Aaron have already been on the road for an hour so there's really no point in calling the party off. Plus Dad, Monica and family are already in Mahomet, waiting on Jerm. Jeremy's was already home from the Y and I leave Jackson with him and take Jeffrey to the IGA. We got what we really needed and head home. Jackson seems fine. He stayed that way for the next hour or so. Then he threw up again not long after all the guests arrived. He was starting to feel really bad as well. Have I mentioned that Jeffrey starts to act like he's not feeling well again either? He's also really cranky since he didn't sleep well the night before. So we have a party where neither one of the boys is happy or feeling good. Good times. It really wasn't that bad but I just wish they had felt better so they could have enjoyed it.

Jeffrey took a nap in the afternoon and when he got up, he was much happier. But poor Jack never really felt great. He'd go in spurts of laying on the floor to running around outside. I'm sure that helped him as well!

Here's some random party pictures. We had a mouse hunt (easter eggs turned into little mice) in the front yard, which neither one of my boys wanted to participate in. It was a beautiful day and the kids did have a good time.

We gave nice parting gifts to all our guests - the ebola virus and pink eye to top it off!!! That's right, Jackson now has pink eye as well! Poor Cael has it also at this point. Sorry guys!

More tomorrow...
